In Jesus' time, there was a custom of not setting a time limit for servants or acknowledging any extra work, since they were slaves and, as such, belonged to their masters; they were the property of their owners. Jesus uses this custom to characterize his disciples, who will fulfill the Master's will with total selflessness and gratuitousness. The evangelizing mission starts from God's desire and has God himself as its objective. The disciple is someone called, chosen, prepared and sent by God as an instrument of salvation, as a sign of his love and truth, as a defender of life and a witness to his goodness. God makes the disciple a bearer of the Good News for the elevation of man and the transformation of the world.
2. Anyone who seeks privileges and prestigious titles cannot be a disciple of Christ. This type of religiosity is strongly condemned by Jesus. Anyone who wants to be a disciple must cast aside all forms of commercialism in their relationship with God, that is, not seek to do something in exchange for something. The disciple, like any human being, has his interests and dreams, but he brings with him some differences: once he is a disciple, his joy is to serve his Lord in the establishment of His Kingdom; in addition, he suffers a lot to be free from the yoke of his interests, and can even be treated as an enemy when in truth he claims to be only faithful to God; another thing, he suffers the rejection of those for whom he is spending his life; his life resembles that of Christ the Servant.
3. In a world that seeks honors, power, fame, cameras and video cameras, first places, applause, titles, success in everything, disinterest in prophetism (a consequence of those who seek themselves), that enslaves religiosity to economic principles, placing God in the position of justifying the most unhealthy desires for domination, manipulation of ideas, psychological imbalance and elimination of the dignity of others, the disciple of Jesus Christ is born, bearing the same mission as the Master to act in the same way: as SERVANTS, even while carrying the cross imposed by the deluded of the world. In the midst of this world, the disciple does the will of God, is aware of the call, knows what his mission is, clothes himself in service and courageously launches himself into the mission. In the end, he is aware that he was only able to carry out Christ's mission because he knew how to live the condition of a servant, serving solely out of love, and that this condition was essential, including and first of all, for his own salvation.
A big and affectionate hug.
