Concluding the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus proposes to his disciples a step beyond the ordinary, beyond people’s daily lives

Concluding the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus proposes to his disciples a step beyond the ordinary, beyond people’s daily lives, beyond the so-so of life, beyond those who think that saying “Lord, Lord” is enough to conquer the Kingdom of God, but continue to follow their whims, their old ideas, their interests. Many think that by acting in this way they are prudent enough, because they do what their intelligence indicates as right. Certainly, many do not even invoke the name of the Lord. The disciple is invited to go beyond this reality until he reaches the essential, hidden from many eyes and hearts.

2. It is necessary to do the Father’s will; to put into practice what He desires. The question is: what is the Father’s will? In the transfiguration, the Father said: “This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.” Above all, doing the Father’s will is LISTENING to His Son Jesus Christ, who is His Word, the Word of Salvation. Listening requires attention, perception, respect, obedience, affection and decision. The disciple is invited to listen attentively to the Word of the Father and, once he has been enveloped by it, to decide to proclaim it throughout the world, through the testimony of a life passionate about the cause of the Kingdom of God.

3. Doing the will of the Father also means putting into practice the Law of God, His Commandments. This is where the proof of love for Him lies. The disciple says "Lord, Lord" with his actions, with love, with charm in his eyes and soul, with his very life. The martyrs teach us how to say "Lord, Lord". Giving one's life for another is saying to him "I love you". This is what Jesus did, and thousands of Christians did the same for Jesus Christ, and the Church continues to do the same in our times and will never stop doing so as long as this world exists. In every Christian, in every disciple, there is the call to live the Lord's Commandments fully: to be all for God and all for the salvation of men.

4. To do the will of the Father is to live the way Jesus lived, being all for the Father and all for humanity, as a Servant, obedient, absolutely rooted in the salvific objective of humanity. His entire life here was a revelation of God, of man, of truth, of love, of life and of the highest mission of humanity. In his life, he fought against the thirst for power of the world, the ambition of men, the exploitation of some by others, the pride of leaders and intellectuals, the trap of attachment to earthly things, to oneself and to others, and the foolishness of man in thinking that he already has what is necessary in himself, that he is self-sufficient, or even completely autonomous.

5. To do the will of the Father is to listen to the Son, to fulfill the Law of God and to live the condition of servant, embraced by Jesus. Only through Jesus Christ, following in His footsteps, living as He lived, will the disciple put God's will into practice and enter the Kingdom of Heaven. In this way, the disciple will be building on the Rock, which is Christ himself. Outside of Christ, there is no future, because it is foolish to build without a foundation, without the truth, without the Word of God.

A big and affectionate hug.
