Reflection

1. John the Baptist becomes a victim of his mission. The darkness cannot bear the truth. John is the prophet of truth and justice: he loves what he does and does not fear persecution because of his prophetic dedication. With John’s arrest, a gap opens up, and Jesus takes the initiative to complete the discourse of the announcement of the Kingdom of God, beginning in Capernaum, in Galilee. There is a land devastated by the darkness of the Assyrian presence since 733 B.C. In that region, not so close to the religious corruption of Jerusalem nor so far from the pagans, Jesus places himself as the Light that shines in the midst of darkness, so that everyone can reach the truth. In Jesus, both Jews and pagans are invited to form one people of God.

2. “The time has been fulfilled.” The time of God’s grace has arrived. Through Jesus Christ, the most important time is that of God acting in history for the salvation of those who respond to Him, of those who, understanding the natural reality and the supernatural presence to which all have been called, choose to go beyond the limits of naturalness, opening themselves to the supernatural reality. Through faith and baptism, that is, through this new birth, there will be detachment from natural charms and the search for things above, for life according to God through Jesus Christ. The time of grace corresponds to the incarnation of the Word, to the presence of the Eternal One among us.

3. "The Kingdom of God is at hand." In Jesus' discourse, the key expression was "Kingdom of heaven" or of God. This kingdom being He Himself present in history; even more, the Kingdom being the practice of truth, justice, mercy, solidarity, meekness and peace. The Kingdom as being the most authentic experience of the very reality of Jesus, for He is the Truth and the Life; He is the greatest and most beautiful definition of love, as OBLATIVITY (total surrender of oneself for the good of others), understanding in person, mercy in action, the builder of peace by surrendering oneself to the will of the Father.

4. What can we say about the Church before the Kingdom of God? It is certainly the legitimate Instrument of this Kingdom. Jesus came to save humanity, bearing witness with his own life to the Trinitarian love for all. The continuation of this mission, through the action of the Spirit of God, was entrusted to the Church, an instrument of God's action in the world and in history. The Church is not a human invention, nor is it the fruit of the interests of the powerful, but is an exclusive creation of God, who wanted it for himself, to be the place of his sacramental presence in history. The Church was born of God's initiative, and is his legitimate instrument for the salvific realization of peoples; it is the place of encounter between him and man.

5. Hence the need for conversion. Jesus said: "Repent and believe in the Gospel." When we look at the characteristics of the Kingdom of God, we understand that this is precisely what the Lord Jesus desires for his disciples. Hence the need for CONVERSION, which means a true change of mentality: to stop thinking like the world and to embrace, resolutely, the way of thinking of God; to abandon the desire for the power of darkness and become a desire and service for the good of others; destroy personal selfishness and surrender to the obedience necessary for the construction of a new human being; understand that there are "wills" contrary to God in the most diverse institutions and personal lives and decide to overcome them immediately, in order to establish the most precious will that comes from Heaven, the will of God himself. To convert is to lose the enchantment of the world and to be enchanted by the life of communion with God, who speaks, revealing himself and preparing for Him. His Gospel is the absolute norm for His chosen ones and, for this very reason, demands the gift of faith.Conversion is not only for the historical period of Jesus, but until His return. Until then, men and women of all races and languages, from all places, must know the Gospel, believe and be baptized. God’s dominion will come about through His loving will and through the faithful and enchanting response of human beings. For this reason, Jesus Christ calls some to stay with Him, to form His apostolate, to fully assume the mission of making God known and capable of being loved. Then, passing by the shore of the Sea of ​​Galilee, He called Simon Peter and Andrew, two brothers who were fishermen. He Himself took the initiative to call them. They, in turn, immediately left their nets and followed Him. Two important things here: first, the adverb IMMEDIATELY. Time is pressing, we cannot wait any longer, the time is now. Furthermore, it can signify the disciple’s availability, the readiness to serve the Lord, being absolutely at the disposal of God’s will, using their abilities for the new fishing, the evangelizing mission. The second thing is the nets, instruments necessary for subsistence. Even so, they were abandoned in view of a higher order project, the salvific project. Abandoning the nets means abandoning what interests oneself, in order to live God’s dream. The same can be said of the sons of Zebedee, who left their boat (safety on the water), nets (means of subsistence) and their own father (family base and psychological comfort) and set out, as disciples of Jesus, trusting absolutely in His testimony, His teachings and His promise.

7. Jesus demands the totality of the person. Are you ready? What else is holding you back in this world? God is calling you now. Courage!

Reflexão

1. João Batista se torna vítima de sua missão. As trevas não suportam a verdade. João é o profeta da verdade e da justiça: ama o que faz e não teme as perseguições por causa de sua dedicação profética. Com a prisão de João, uma lacuna se abre, e Jesus toma a iniciativa de plenificar o discurso do anúncio do Reino de Deus, começando por Cafarnaum, na Galiléia. Ali se encontra uma terra devastada pelas trevas da presença assíria desde 733 a.C. Naquela região, não tão próxima à corrupção religiosa de Jerusalém nem tão distante dos pagãos, Jesus se coloca como a Luz que brilha em meio as trevas, a fim de que todos possam alcançar a verdade. Em Jesus, tanto judeus quanto pagãos são convidados a formar um só povo de Deus.

2. "O tempo já se completou". Chegou o tempo da graça de Deus. Por meio de Jesus Cristo, o tempo mais importante é o de Deus agindo na história para a salvação dos que a Ele responderem, daqueles que, entendendo a realidade natural e a presença sobrenatural para a qual todos foram chamados, escolherem ultrapassar os limites da naturalidade, abrindo-se à realidade sobrenatural. Pela fé e pelo batismo, isto é, por esse novo nascimento dar-se-á o desapego dos encantos naturais e a busca pelas coisas do alto, pela vida segundo Deus por meio de Jesus Cristo. O tempo da graça corresponde à encarnação do Verbo, à presença do Eterno entre nós. 

3. "O Reino de Deus está próximo". No discurso de Jesus, a expressão chave era "Reino dos céus" ou de Deus. Tal reino sendo Ele próprio presente na história; mais ainda, o Reino sendo a prática da verdade, da justiça, da misericórdia, da solidariedade, da mansidão e da paz. O Reino como sendo a mais autêntica experiência da realidade mesma de Jesus, pois Ele é a Verdade e a Vida; Ele é a maior e mais bela definição do amor, como OBLATIVIDADE (entrega total de si para o bem do outro), a compreensão em pessoa, a misericórdia em ato, o construtor da paz pela entrega de si mesmo à vontade do Pai. 

4. O que dizer sobre a Igreja diante do Reino Deus? Certamente ela é o legítimo Instrumento desse Reino. Jesus veio salvar a humanidade, testemunhando com a própria vida o amor trinitário por todos. A continuação dessa missão, por força da ação do Espírito de Deus, ficou sob os cuidados da Igreja, instrumento da ação de Deus no mundo e na história. A Igreja não é uma invenção humana, não é fruto dos interesses de poderosos, mas é uma criação exclusiva de Deus, que a quis para si, para ser o lugar de sua presença sacramental na história. A Igreja nasce da iniciativa de Deus, é seu instrumento legítimo para a realização salvífica dos povos, é o lugar do encontro entre Ele e o homem. 

5. Daí, a necessidade de conversão. Disse Jesus: "Convertei-vos e crede no Evangelho". Ao olharmos as características do Reino de Deus, entendemos que é justamente isso que o Senhor Jesus deseja para os seus discípulos. Por isso, a necessidade da CONVERSÃO, que significa uma verdadeira mudança de mentalidade: deixar de pensar como o mundo e abraçar, decididamente, o pensar de Deus; abandonar o desejo de poder das trevas e tornar-se desejo e serviço para o bem do outro; destruir o egoísmo pessoal e entregar-se à obediência necessária para a construção de um novo ser humano; compreender que existem "vontades" contrárias a Deus nas mais diversas instituições e vidas pessoais e decidir superá-las imediatamente, a fim de se estabeleça a mais preciosa vontade vinda do Céu, a vontade de Deus mesmo. Converter-se é perder o encanto pelo mundo e encantar-se pela vida de comunhão com Deus, que fala revelando-se e preparando para Ele. Seu Evangelho é a norma absoluta para os Seus escolhidos e, por isso mesmo, exige o dom da fé.  A conversão não é somente para o período histórico de Jesus, mas até Seu retorno. Até lá, homens e mulheres de todas as raças e línguas, de toda parte, deverão conhecer o Evangelho, crer e ser batizados. O domínio de Deus dar-se-á pela Sua vontade amorosa e pela resposta fiducial e encantadora do ser humano. Por isso, Jesus Cristo chama alguns para ficarem com Ele, formarem Seu apostolado, assumirem de modo pleno a missão de tornar Deus conhecido e capaz de ser amado. Então, passando à beira do mar da Galileia, chamou Simão Pedro e André, dois irmãos pescadores. Ele mesmo tomou a iniciativa de chamá-los. Eles, por sua vez, largaram imediatamente as redes e O seguiram. Duas coisas importantes aqui: primeiro o advérbio IMEDIATAMENTE. O tempo urge, não se pode esperar mais, o tempo é agora. Além disso, pode significar a disponibilidade do discípulo, a prontidão para servir o Senhor, o estar absolutamente colocado à disposição da vontade de Deus, fazendo uso de suas habilidades para a nova pesca, a missão evangelizadora. A segunda coisa são as redes, instrumentos necessários para a subsistência. Mesmo assim, foram abandonadas em vista de um projeto de ordem superior, o projeto salvífico. Abandonar as redes, significa abandonar o que a si interessa, para viver o sonho de Deus. O mesmo se diga dos filhos de Zebedeu, os quais largaram barca (segurança nas águas), redes (meio de subsistência) e o próprio pai (base familiar e aconchego psicológico) e partiram, como discípulos de Jesus, confiando absolutamente no Seu testemunho, nos Seus ensinamentos e na Sua promessa.

7. Jesus exige a totalidade da pessoa. Estás pronto? O que mais ainda te prende neste mundo? Deus te chama agora. Coragem!
