Just like the Magi, guided by the star, we have come to worship and welcome the Savior of humanity. The light of the peoples, Jesus reveals himself to men and women of all nations who open themselves to God’s plans and set out on a journey in search of unity, justice and peace. Let us allow ourselves to be guided by the star of Bethlehem in this Jubilee Year.

First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6

Let us welcome the announcement of the glory of the Lord and let ourselves be enveloped by the light of the newborn Savior, which illuminates and reunites all humanity.

We have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him.” 3When King Herod heard this, he was troubled, as was the whole city of Jerusalem. 4Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5They answered, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is what the prophet has written: 6‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” 7Then Herod secretly summoned the wise men and inquired from them carefully when the star had appeared. 8Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search carefully for the child. Reflection:

The news of the Magi shakes the powerful Herod and the authorities in Jerusalem. The Magi are guided by the star that shines over Bethlehem. Arriving there, they worship the child and offer him gifts: gold (royalty), frankincense (divinity) and myrrh (humanity). Jesus is the star that guides all peoples. This is precisely the meaning of the solemnity of Epiphany: Jesus reveals himself to everyone, including the pagans, symbolized by the Magi. Just as the Magi set out on their journey, guided by the “star”We are invited to seek the One who should illuminate our journey throughout each day of this new year. From the Gospel account, we see that Jesus, from the moment of his birth, provokes different reactions among those who accept him and those who reject him. The Messiah came for all people and all nations, but not everyone accepts and welcomes him.

Eis que vem o Senhor dos senhores; em suas mãos, o reino, o poder e o império (Ml 3,1; 1Cr 29,12).

Assim como os magos, guiados pela estrela, viemos adorar e acolher o Salvador da humanidade. Luz dos povos, Jesus se manifesta aos homens e mulheres, de todas as nações, que se abrem aos planos de Deus e se põem a caminho, em busca de unidade, justiça e paz. Deixemo-nos guiar pela estrela de Belém neste ano jubilar.

Vimos sua estrela no Oriente / e viemos adorar o Senhor (Mt 2,2). – R.

Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – 1Tendo nascido Jesus na cidade de Belém, na Judeia, no tempo do rei Herodes, eis que alguns magos do Oriente chegaram a Jerusalém, 2perguntando: “Onde está o rei dos judeus, que acaba de nascer? Nós vimos a sua estrela no Oriente e viemos adorá-lo”. 3Ao saber disso, o rei Herodes ficou perturbado, assim como toda a cidade de Jerusalém. 4Reunindo todos os sumos sacerdotes e os mestres da Lei, perguntava-lhes onde o Messias deveria nascer. 5Eles responderam: “Em Belém, na Judeia, pois assim foi escrito pelo profeta: 6‘E tu, Belém, terra de Judá, de modo algum és a menor entre as principais cidades de Judá, porque de ti sairá um chefe que vai ser o pastor de Israel, o meu povo'”. 7Então Herodes chamou em segredo os magos e procurou saber deles cuidadosamente quando a estrela tinha aparecido. 8Depois os enviou a Belém, dizendo: “Ide e procurai obter informações exatas sobre o menino. E, quando o encontrardes, avisai-me, para que também eu vá adorá-lo”. 9Depois que ouviram o rei, eles partiram. E a estrela, que tinham visto no Oriente, ia adiante deles, até parar sobre o lugar onde estava o menino. 10Ao verem de novo a estrela, os magos sentiram uma alegria muito grande. 11Quando entraram na casa, viram o menino com Maria, sua mãe. Ajoelharam-se diante dele e o adoraram. Depois abriram seus cofres e lhe ofereceram presentes: ouro, incenso e mirra. 12Avisados em sonho para não voltarem a Herodes, retornaram para a sua terra, seguindo outro caminho. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

A notícia dos magos abala o poderoso Herodes e as autoridades de Jerusalém. Os magos são guiados pela estrela que brilha sobre Belém. Chegando lá, adoram o menino e lhe oferecem presentes: ouro (realeza), incenso (divindade) e mirra (humanidade). Jesus é a estrela que guia todos os povos. Este é justamente o significado da solenidade da Epifania: Jesus se revela a todos, inclusive aos pagãos, simbolizados pelos magos. Assim como os magos se colocaram a caminho, guiados pela “estrela somos convidados a buscar aquele que deve iluminar nossa caminhada ao longo de todos os dias deste novo ano. Pelo relato do Evangelho, percebemos que Jesus, desde o seu nascimento, provoca diferentes reações entre quem o aceita e quem o rejeita. O Messias veio para todas as pessoas e todas as nações, mas nem todos o aceitam e o acolhem.
