The scourge of hunger and lack of love continue to ravage humanity. We are invited to manifest God’s love by sharing our gifts to satisfy the hunger for material and spiritual bread of an immense multitude that is not far from our daily lives.

First Reading: 1 John 4:7-10

Reading from the first letter of Saint John – 7Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love has not come to know God, for God is love. 9This is how the love of God was made manifest among us: God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might have life through him. 10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. – The Word of the Lord.

The kings of all the earth / shall worship you, O Lord!

Gospel: Mark 6,34-44

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark – At that time, 34Jesus saw a large crowd and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things. 35When it was getting late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and it is already late. 36Send the crowd away so that you can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and buy something to eat.” 37But Jesus replied, “You give them something to eat.” The disciples asked him, “Do you want us to spend two hundred denarii to buy bread and give them something to eat?” 38Jesus asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” They went and said, “Five loaves and two fish.” 39Then Jesus told them to sit down on the green grass in groups. 40And they all sat down, in groups of one hundred and fifty. 41Then Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, said the blessing, broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to distribute. He also divided the two fish among them. 42They all ate and were satisfied, 43and they picked up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces of bread and the fish. 44The number of those who ate the loaves was five thousand. – Word of salvation.

Reflection:

Our God is a God of love, who has compassion on all who hunger for spiritual bread, but also for material food. In the context of the manifestations, the liturgy presents us with a story that we could call a Christophany (manifestation of Christ), in which Jesus manifests himself as a prophet who nourishes the crowd with the Word and with bread for all. The miracle of the multiplication, while referring to the centrality of the Eucharist in the life of the community, proposes to us the challenge of sharing. Against the selfishness of earthly societies, Christ teaches us to share what each person has, so that all have their needs met.

Bendito aquele que vem em nome do Senhor: Deus é Senhor, ele nos iluminou (Sl 117,26s).

O flagelo da fome e a falta de amor continuam a assolar a humanidade. Somos convidados a manifestar o amor de Deus, partilhando nossos dons para saciar a fome de pão material e espiritual de uma imensa multidão que não está distante do nosso cotidiano.

Primeira Leitura: 1 João 4,7-10

Leitura da primeira carta de São João – 7Caríssimos, amemo-nos uns aos outros, porque o amor vem de Deus e todo aquele que ama nasceu de Deus e conhece Deus. 8Quem não ama não chegou a conhecer Deus, pois Deus é amor. 9Foi assim que o amor de Deus se manifestou entre nós: Deus enviou o seu Filho único ao mundo, para que tenhamos vida por meio dele. 10Nisto consiste o amor: não fomos nós que amamos a Deus, mas foi ele que nos amou e enviou o seu Filho como vítima de reparação pelos nossos pecados. – Palavra do Senhor.

Evangelho: Marcos 6,34-44

O Espírito do Senhor repousa sobre mim / e enviou-me a anunciar aos pobres o Evangelho (Lc 4,18). – R.

Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos – Naquele tempo, 34Jesus viu uma numerosa multidão e teve compaixão, porque eram como ovelhas sem pastor. Começou, pois, a ensinar-lhes muitas coisas. 35Quando estava ficando tarde, os discípulos chegaram perto de Jesus e disseram: “Este lugar é deserto e já é tarde. 36Despede o povo, para que possa ir aos campos e povoados vizinhos comprar alguma coisa para comer”. 37Mas Jesus respondeu: “Dai-lhes vós mesmos de comer”. Os discípulos perguntaram: “Queres que gastemos duzentos denários para comprar pão e dar-lhes de comer?” 38Jesus perguntou: “Quantos pães tendes? Ide ver”. Eles foram e responderam: “Cinco pães e dois peixes”. 39Então Jesus mandou que todos se sentassem na grama verde – formando grupos. 40E todos se sentaram, formando grupos de cem e de cinquenta pessoas. 41Depois Jesus pegou os cinco pães e os dois peixes, ergueu os olhos para o céu, pronunciou a bênção, partiu os pães e ia dando aos discípulos, para que os distribuíssem. Dividiu entre todos também os dois peixes. 42Todos comeram, ficaram satisfeitos 43e recolheram doze cestos cheios de pedaços de pão e também dos peixes. 44O número dos que comeram os pães era de cinco mil homens. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

Nosso Deus é um Deus de amor, que se compadece de todos os que têm fome do pão espiritual, mas também do alimento material. No contexto das manifestações, a liturgia nos apresenta um relato que poderíamos chamar de cristofania (manifestação de Cristo), no qual Jesus se manifesta como profeta que nutre a multidão com a Palavra e com o pão para todos. O milagre da multiplicação, ao mesmo tempo que remete à centralidade da Eucaristia na vida da comunidade, nos propõe o desafio da partilha. Contra o egoísmo próprio das sociedades terrenas, Cristo ensina a pôr em comum o que cada um tem, a fim de que todos tenham suas necessidades supridas.
