Jesus, the Son of God, the source of eternal life, was sent into the world to save mankind from all that oppresses it. In this celebration, let us draw near to the Lord, who welcomes and heals us.

First Reading: 1 John 5:5-13

A reading from the first letter of Saint John – Beloved, 5Who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ. (He did not come by water alone, but by water and blood.) And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7Therefore there are three who testify: 8the Spirit, the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke – 12It happened that Jesus was in a city, and there was a man with leprosy there. When he saw Jesus, the man fell at his feet and begged, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” 13Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean.” Immediately the leprosy left him. 14Jesus told him, “Don’t tell anyone. Go and show yourself to the priest and offer the sign prescribed by Moses for your cleansing.” 15But his fame grew, and large crowds came to hear him and to be cured of their diseases. 16But he would often withdraw to lonely places and pray. – The Word of Salvation.

Reflection:

Christ appeared to the man with leprosy, healing him and cleansing him. In other words, he allowed him to reintegrate into society and, consequently, to return to his relationship with his brothers and with God himself, which had been forbidden by Jewish law because of the disease. Jesus is the promoter of this liberation, and he continues to free his people today through the sacraments and the Gospel. It is also interesting to note the balance Jesus experienced: he spent some time among the crowd, healing and freeing, but he also set aside some time for silent and solitary prayer. This makes us reflect on our life of faith today. In the midst of the activism and hustle and bustle of everyday life, do we find time to take refuge in the “mountain” or the “desert” to find God in silence?

Para os retos de coração surgiu nas trevas uma luz: o Senhor cheio de compaixão, justo e misericordioso (Sl 111,4).

Jesus, o Filho de Deus, fonte de vida eterna, foi enviado ao mundo para salvar o ser humano de tudo aquilo que o oprime. Nesta celebração, aproximemo-nos do Senhor, que nos acolhe e cura.

Primeira Leitura: 1 João 5,5-13

Leitura da primeira carta de São João – Caríssimos, 5quem é o vencedor do mundo, senão aquele que crê que Jesus é o Filho de Deus? 6Este é o que veio pela água e pelo sangue: Jesus Cristo. (Não veio somente com a água, mas com a água e o sangue.) E o Espírito é que dá testemunho, porque o Espírito é a verdade. 7Assim, são três que dão testemunho: 8o Espírito, a água e o sangue; e os três são unânimes. 9Se aceitamos o testemunho dos homens, o testemunho de Deus é maior. Este é o testemunho de Deus, pois ele deu testemunho a respeito de seu Filho. 10Aquele que crê no Filho de Deus tem esse testemunho dentro de si. E, imediatamente, a lepra o deixou. 14E Jesus recomendou-lhe: “Não digas nada a ninguém. Vai mostrar-te ao sacerdote e oferece pela purificação o prescrito por Moisés como prova de tua cura”. 15Não obstante, sua fama ia crescendo, e numerosas multidões acorriam para ouvi-lo e serem curadas de suas enfermidades. 16Ele, porém, se retirava para lugares solitários e se entregava à oração. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

Cristo se manifesta ao homem cheio de lepra, curando-o e purificando-o, ou seja, permitindo sua reintegração na sociedade e, consequentemente, o retorno do seu relacionamento com os irmãos e com o próprio Deus, proibido até então pela legislação judaica por causa da doença. Jesus é o promotor dessa libertação, e ele continua ainda hoje libertando seu povo, através dos sacramentos e do Evangelho. É interessante notar ainda o equilíbrio vivido por Jesus: alguns momentos, ele passa entre a multidão, curando e libertando, mas também reserva alguns momentos para a oração silenciosa e solitária. Isso nos faz refletir sobre nossa vida de fé hoje. Em meio ao ativismo e à agitação da vida cotidiana, conseguimos tempo para nos refugiar na “montanha” ou no “deserto” para encontrar a Deus no silêncio?
